Vitamin Angels is expediting and increasing the number of vitamins being sent to Nepal following the earthquake is response to recent requests from partner NGOs in the country.

“The importance of proper nutrition in the aftermath of disasters is vital to maintaining good health when those already at risk of undernutrition are faced with even greater challenges in obtaining food and clean water, as well as increased exposure to illness,” said Howard Schiffer, President and Founder of Vitamin Angels.

Vitamin Angels has been working with various non-profit partners in Nepal since 2008 to distribute critically needed nutrients to populations that are not being reached by government health programs.

NBTY is also responding to the tragedy, and has donated over $500,000 worth of products and made a cash contribution to aid in the relief efforts. The company has donated to Feed the Children, and the products are a mix of Balance Bars, multivitamins and Calcium/Vitamin D supplements from its brands (Nature’s Bounty, etc.), a spokesperson told NutraIngredients-USA.

Vitamin Angels suggests parties interested in supporting the Nepal earthquake relief effort consider contributing directly to its NGO partners: Global Nutrition Empowerment, Project for a Village, and Upaya Zen Center Buddhist which supports VA’s partner, Aatiyma.
