DSM Nutritional Products and DSM Food Specialties are combining their expertise in a New Jersey-based Innovation Center that will open in 2011 with a focus on dietary supplements, beverage, bakery, dairy, savory and personal care markets.

The new facility will have application suites, sensory services and customer application pilot facilities and follows the establishment of similar centers in Brazil and China in 2009.

DSM was unable to provide further detail by the time of publication.

In a statement, the company highlighted its ambition to provide enhanced “on the ground support” to its customers by integrating, “proven technical expertise with insight into customer preferences and knowledge of key regional differences.”

“DSM’s latest investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing global customer support and proactively developing solutions to meet market needs,” said Mauricio Adade, president human nutrition and health at DSM Nutritional Products.

The facility in China specializes in dairy, baking, beverage and savory applications while the Brazil unit focuses on beverage development.

The move into dedicated innovation centers follows the development of DSM’s Quality for Life programme – a banner under which the company’s commitments to innovation quality are housed, and which was officially launched in 2008.

That programme established standards in product research, development, manufacture and distribution and also seeks to manifest best practice in the way the company, “engages with customers, employees and society”.

Frederika Kruythoff, DSM Food Specialties global sales director summarized the initiative by saying: "We look forward to service our customers with this new center, where we combine the best skills and competences across DSM".
