The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted US Patent 8,563,045 to BioCell Technology pertaining to the dietary ingredient BioCell Collagen.

The patent, the company's sixth US patent, has key claims regarding molecular composition, molecular weight, and manufacturing method. It also covers the use of BioCell Collagen in various ingestible and topical applications, including but not limited to, methods of replenishing hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate, restoring skin viscoelasticity, retaining skin moisture, and inducing cartilage formation.

“We are pleased to have been awarded an additional patent on BioCell Collagen to further protect our groundbreaking and clinically validated technology that has enriched the lives of so many consumers around the world,” said Suhail Ishaq, president of BioCell Technology. “This patent further strengthens our BioCell Collagen intellectual property portfolio and helps reassure our world-wide licensees that they have a highly-differentiated nutraceutical that has US Patent protection.”

Biocell Collagen is described as a hydrolyzed chicken sternal cartilage extract. The three main constituents, collagen type II, chondroitin sulfate, and hyaluronic acid, are reduced to highly-bioavailable, very low molecular weight forms through a hydrolysis process.
